Truth Media was formed in mid-September of 2002 to aid the Vancouver Down Town East Side (DTES), Woodward's Coalition, in their struggle for social housing*. The origins of Truth Media were spawned from a simple leaf-letter - and the determination to create awareness of the decay in the social fabric of Canadian soil -- designed to provoke thought on both sides of the protest line. Many of the original leaf-letters were conceived in a VCC (Vancouver Community College) Computer Lab until the lab's demise, and loss of a dedicated staff, due to Government cutbacks.
It was threw this non-profit print that Truth Media (TM) encountered, and made contact with, the Fair Choice Party (FCP) and it's claim of, Radical Ideas. However, the ideas of the FCP did not strike Truth Media as radical. Before it's Time, these words echoed in my mind.
Steve Glickman, the founder of the FCP sees his vision as, Revolutionary. However, Truth Media sees it as organic (Evolutionary) and as an only means of survival for a decaying political system in the new millennium. After all, Honesty and Trust, really should not be labeled with the stigmas of "Revolutionary" or "Radical".
Ideals. What do ideals have to do with realities? The truism that states, The youth are way too idealistic, should not be mocked by democracy but embraced as a vision of a future that an elder demographic can neither fathom nor comprehend. Point-in-case, the field of Linguistics (how we understand and apply words**) was created at this turn of the century by a brilliant man named Noam Chomsky***. His idealistic thought was not suppressed as youthful ambition. However, he was allowed to breathe life into a new field of study in the 21st century. Noam is considered, Arguably the Greatest Intellectual of Our Times. Was this due to his ideals, ambition, birthright, or perseverance? We believe that Noam displayed all of these characters and qualities to achieve his current status.
However, when ideals are sapped and stolen due to sex, status, race, religion, Cree or color Truth Media will make an earnest attempt to have its voice, and the voice of the suppressed, heard in the wake and echo of tyrannical opinion.
Steve Glickman has an honest and open ideal, which Truth Media supports, he wishes to make poverty bearable (not eliminate it completely). Yet, the powers that be see his vote-scaling scheme as improvable and even impossible. Why? Truth Media believes that the FCP is a step-in-the-light direction. However, to make everyone see the light they must first be a, True Believer. Meaning everyone must trust money, government and economy before any real change can be made. For if one person is allowed to cheat on their taxes the system becomes corrupt. However, with computer technology we are not that far away from implementing trials of the vote-scaling process. Just like any grand plan (that is Organic in nature) it will have its bugs and take the evolution of the people's mind and will to make positive progression.
One-step at a time. That is our credo, and our challenge, to the Canadian Government. For how can a Nation of 31 million people be asked to Trust its Parliament (Par-lie-ment?) when its words are hollow to the steps they implement. Example? Take something as simple as the design of a five dollar bill. Did the Bank of Canada forget that Canada is a Multicultural Country when designing the bill? Who says only Caucasians can lace up ice skates? What are we telling the people whom see money as a means of survival? This may seem trivial in the grand-scheme of evolution, however, an eye for detail in an information era we believe is key to survival.
Truth Media has coined the phrase, Quantus Generation. Meaning a younger generation, after the X and before the Echo****, which blithely consumes without knowing the direct and indirect repercussions of its consumption. For example, Do you know what foods you are eating contain GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms)? or Are your pair of sneakers produced in a sweat shop? or Is your bottle of wine supporting Nuclear testing? See, observe without speaking, and watch the system work at a frantic pace that may often try to avoid such questions. However, if we are to take the one-step-at-a-time approach these questions are not only valid, but, should be seen as mandatory.
If evolution is the ever organic growth, adaptation, and mutation of the human race (homo sapient sapient) than Truth Media sees a bright future for a Neosapien Race. Taking the Race out of the future, the term Neosapien derives from the Greek "Neos" meaning new and "Sapientia", from the Latin, meaning wisdom & understanding. This is not illogical or even ideological. Using the patterns of history we may shape the future, so long as we do not continue to repeat the same clumsy steps towards our assent, and continue to crush positive and valuable ideals***** in the name of progress.
Barring in mind that I do have a personal bias. See Truth Media envisions a future where our great grandchildren can literally take a field-trip to the moon or some other remote planet. Yes, this is where my ideal is hopefully allowed to breathe (as opposed to being viewed as crack-pot). For at this current time of paying bills, barley making rent, and struggling for survival my dreams of the future (like so many others) is one of the only things that keeps me on the light side of sanity.
How can we shape the future for positive growth and gains? That question should never be completely answered (for then there would be no concept of future). For the infinite lives of a growing population will all have their own answers to this question. However, what we should be concentration on is how all of these voices shall be heard.
