Provocative New Political Concept Sparks Debate

Local experts debate if “vote-sizing” is reasonable way to empower people

Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - On Thursday, 16 June 2005  at 7:00 pm at the lower level of the Central Vancouver Library, 350 West Georgia Street, Democratic Empowerment Party representative Your Name will join a panel of local experts from both the right and left wings of the political spectrum to discuss the concept of vote-sizing described in a new book, There, from Here - The Vote Sizing Method. Vote-sizing, as proposed by the DEP, is a radical idea in which larger votes will be allocated to average and low income constituents in order to give the power back to the people. Discussion on this and other controversial topics will be the highlight of the launch of The Vote Sizing Method.

Veteran Broadcaster Sam Payar of CCBR 770 AM will emcee the occasion and the panel will include distinguished participants Callie Yeoman of the New Democratic Party, Tation Exerci, Frank Autem of the Fraser Institute, UBC Professor Blake T. Odio, and Nulla Facilisi from BC ON! in Victoria.

The topics covered will be: Does vote-sizing undermine or strengthen democracy? What would vote-sizing do to our economy? Can it be the answer to resolving wars? How would it work?

"This kind of discussion is exactly what vote sizing is all about - giving people a voice." Your Name adds, "What kind of democracy do we have when most of us feel we don't even have a say?”

DEP sparked discussions on radio talk shows across North America have generated strong opinions and lively debate. A question-and-answer period with the audience will follow. Due to limited seating availability, the event will also be webcast online at VoteSizing.org. Tickets are free and are available on a first-come first-serve basis at 604-331-3603.

Twenty copies of The Vote Sizing Method, signed by the panel, will be given to participants in the Q&A. Copies of the Sundance award winning documentary, The Corporation will, also be drawn.
